The New Year has us all thinking about resolutions. For many it’s the typical “lose weight”, “exercise more” or “quit smoking” vows. While all of those are admirable, here is a list of easy resolutions that will make you feel good, not only physically, but about yourself all year long!
GET OUT!
We spend so much time at the office or at home, closed in by four walls. Escape, even for a few hours. Take a long walk. Go to the beach or find a hiking trail. Enjoy the outdoors more! The exercise and fresh air will work wonders on energizing you.
GIVE BACK!
We get so caught up in our OWN needs that we forget others. Turn the focus AWAY from yourself for a time. Volunteer for a youth group. Give blood. Participate in a walk-a-thon. Locate local organizations that need volunteers and give your time! You will find giving of yourself very rewarding.
TURN IT OFF!
We are constantly hit with so much negativity with media or urgency with our cell phones beeping, singing and vibrating. Take a day and turn it all Or if a day is way too much for you, just a few hours with the phone off or a news “fast” (don’t watch the evening news). You will find you are less stressed without the external distractions and world calamity.
DANCE!
Okay, exercise is good for you, no doubt. But for many of us, even with all the good intentions of making the most of the gym membership or the new work out equipment, we start to slack after a few weeks. But turn up the music a couple times a week, kick off your shoes and get plain silly as you dance around the house. It not only will help you burn calories WITHOUT feeling like exercise but it will raise your mood instantly!
EXPECT MIRACLES!
Too often we go through the day hoping for the best and expecting the worst. Change your mindset this year. Take a moment each day to be thankful for what you have and EXPECT what you want to happen! A positive mindset will go a long way in helping you achieve your goals!
BE CHILDLIKE!
Be like a child again. No, not childish. Don’t kick and pout if something doesn’t go your way. But look at each day as a child does—with enthusiasm and an ‘anything is possible’ attitude. Not certain how to start? Got kids? Watch them as they play. Join them. Go to a playground and swing. Do something new. Create something! Discovering your childlike self will bring joy to your life and will reduce your stress!
